Responsive

Responsive web design is about making sure that your web property adapts gracefully to any device it's accessed on. And that it performs flawlessly on every one.

You might hear some people refer to it as Adaptive web design, but you don't need to worry about that. Leave it to us.

Royal Mail and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are just some of the satisfied clients with whom we've done responsive projects.

What we do

Today you just can't tell what device your site is going to be viewed on: Mobile, tablet, smart TV, gaming console...

Why don't people just stick to computers!

Then there's asset management, Retina display, OS fragmentation, hardware capabilities, bandwidth, screen sizes. We relieve you of the headache of thinking about all this and more by designing products that work on everything you require.

At Blonde, responsive thinking is baked into a project. It's something we think about from conception to delivery. It can't be any other way.

Before responsive emerged as a design discipline, most organisations relied on multiple sub-domains to manage their properties for different devices.

Who remembers having to specifically visit an m. or wap. site on your mobile? Were you not frustrated when what you were looking for wasn't included in the mobile version of the site? And when given the option to view the desktop version, didn't that frustration only increase?

Responsive means that your site only exists on one URL, which is so much better for SEO as well as user experience.

How we do it

Operating in a touch environment is a very different beast from the conventional point and click world we've all been immersed in for so long. Key to operating in this new universe is the ability to fundamentally rethink the user experience and technical implementation. We keep in mind that something which may look and feel amazing on a desktop may be totally unusable on a mobile. We understand the capabilities and limitations of the various platforms and can achieve amazing results without too much compromise.

We take a commercial problem solving approach to responsive design. At the outset of any project we aim to clearly define the purpose behind Why something is being built. This is a critical step before we can begin designing any solution.

We follow this up with rigorous research. This includes talking to your stakeholders (as part of the UX design), and looking at your analytics to glean demographic and site usage data.

This not only shows us who your target audience is, it also means we don't need to make assumptions about what content your customers want and whether we need to take a mobile first or a desktop first approach for your project.

We apply everything new we have learned on each of our projects. Sometimes though, it's as important to know what doesn't work.

Having this knowledge gives us the necessary space to conceive ingenious solutions for you.
